New Jersey cop convicted of assault in beating death
A Weehawken, New Jersey, police officer was convicted on Monday on charges connected with the fatal beating of a 17 year old.

The Jersey Journal reports that officer Alejandro Jaramillo is convicted on charges of aggravated assault and official misconduct. The boy died eight days after a confrontation with the officer in June 2003. The jury failed to find Jaramillo guilty on charges of attempted murder, aggravated manslaughter and reckless manslaughter in the same case. Jaramillo will be held in custody until he is sentenced. He faces up to 30 years in prison.
