California cop accused of harassing woman
A San Francisco police officer was charged last Wednesday with violating department policy by harassing a woman while he was on the job.
The San Francisco Chronicle says that officer Kenneth Weems met the woman when he was taking a crime report from her roommate in 2005. In May 2005 he spoke with the woman when he spotted her waiting for a friend at a public transit station. The next evening he dropped by the woman's home in uniform and with his partner and asked her a series of personal questions which made the woman uncomfortable and were evidently not related to any official police business. He phoned the woman later the same night. Two days later he called again and left a message on her answering machine. The next day the woman was leaving her home with her boyfriend when Weems drove by in his cruiser and then abruptly stopped. The woman ran back into her home and called 9-1-1 and reported the officer's activities. He is also accused of running the woman's licence plate through a police computer.
