Connecticut cop gets off on shooting spree charges

A police officer in Bridgeport, Connecticut, who went on a drunken shooting spree last August was found guilty of a single misdemeanour count of reckless endangerment last Thursday.

General Abuse and Crime

The Connecticut Post says that officer John Biehn was found not guilty of three counts of attempted murder, three counts of attempted first degree assault, two counts of first degree reckless endangerment and two counts of second degree reckless endangerment. The jury instead found Biehn guilty of a single count of reckless endangerment. He was accused of having an argument with his wife before going on his drunken August rampage. During the trial the jury heard testimony from four people who say that the officer pointed his gun and fired shots at them. One man was chased down a sidewalk while dodging bullets. Another woman claimed that Biehn fired shots at her car as she tried to flee. The jury evidently ignored all of the evidence regarding the shooting spree and instead found him guilty of leaving his gun under a highway overpass after the incident. The night before the verdict Biehn was given two commendations by the police department for his work before the shooting incident. He faces one year in prison when he is sentenced on June 16th.
