Florida cop arrested after violent attack on girlfriend
A police officer in Fellsmere, Florida, was arrested on Saturday for beating up his girlfriend.
The Stuart News says that officer William Wheeler is charged with domestic violence battery. His girlfriend claims that during an argument last Thursday Wheeler placed a blanket over her head and choked her to the point where she almost passed out. He then told to to be quiet because he feared losing his job if police were called by neighbours. With the blanket still covering her hear the attack continued with Wheeler striking his girlfriend's back. There was a break in the violence but Wheeler soon resumed the attack by striking and slapping the woman's face and pulling her hair. He also forcibly removed all of the womans clothing and threatened to kill her and himself if she called the police. Wheeler is suspended from his job with pay and has been released on his own recognisance. This was not the officer;s first domestic violence arrest. He was arrested and charged with a domestic assault in 1998 when he was working as a police officer in Melbourne, Florida. In that case the charge was dropped when Wheeler successfully completed a 26 week domestic violence course. He resigned from the Melbourne department after his 1998 arrest.
